This is Al Foster, award winning, world famous jazz musician but more importantly an incredibly happy man. I didn’t know much if anything about him before that day, my roomate @_matthew_rl (who also went with another jazz musician to pick him up from his house, but thats his story to tell not mine;) told me how important and how gifted this man is so I decided since I took the photo to do a little research. He has been playing drums since he was 13 (now 74) and started his big recording debut with Blue Mitchell at 21. He has played with legends like Miles Davis and to quote Miles “He knocked me out because he had such a groove and he would just lay it right in there.” Thats a great compliment to get from one of the worlds greatest jazz musicians. But what is the point of me saying all this? This man undeniably loves what he does and has been doing it for over 63 years and still going strong. That is inspiring to any artist of any craft, it goes to show how if you really love something, pour your heart into it until it stops beating. Thats the type of spirit I want to have when I’m his age.
